I stumbled across a great website I’d like to share with you guys. Dean Tornabene’s Lookcut is a great resource for weight loss news, articles and amazing dietary supplements and products. It has a plethora of information. I particularly found his section on Weight Loss Myths very interesting. And he has a Weight Loss Article index with a comprehensive list of weight loss topics. Anything thing from, how to tackle belly fat to how you can minimize weight gain during the holidays (something I am totally interested in). He also has a monthly newsletter you can subscribe to that provides weight loss secrets. tips on healthy living, long term weight loss insights that will help keep you on the inside track to permanent change.

Here’s a brief list of some of the dietary supplements he offers and I’m very interested in trying:

Coco Trim - The Core Issues of Weight Control

Fights fat from 8 angles

Promotes pH Balance, antioxidant balance, cortisol control

Equals many servings of fruit and vegetables

Slim Burst - Focused Weight Loss

Encourages stubborn metabolisms

Thermogenic support for increased fat loss

Appetite support

Cst Boost - Jump Start Your Fat Loss

Aids acceleration of fat loss

Helps overcome dieters plateau

For men and women.

What’s also great is he offers a 7 day trial offer of some of his products. The Slim Burst/Cst Boost combo trial package is only $2.95 for S&H. Another product that also caught my eye, since I never get enough veggies and fruits into my diet, is the Body Glo Superfood. It has over 70 natural ingredients, with a full spectrum of fruits and veggies. Definitely something I would love to try and the price is very reasonable, the only complaint I have is I can’t find anything on each product page about how long the supply lasts. I might be missing something though.

But overall, I would say that this is a very resourceful site, and you guys should go check it out!

Wow…I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I’ve posted. I promise that I will never go this long again, without posting something to let you guys know what’s going on in my crazy world. So far no more gain to report, so that’s a relief, but still haven’t lost either.

As you all may know, January of this year, I set out on a mission to lose 150 lbs, and I fell very short of that goal. It has almost been a year since I began this journey, and I’ve only lost a total of 26 lbs. I know, that’s better than nothing, but it was over 35 lbs and I’ve gained some back. So that’s no fun. But still within this year, I can say I’ve lost 26 lbs, so that’s very encouraging, and to be honest, I’m pretty proud of myself. So in a way, I still feel like a winner.

I’m hoping after the holidays, I can get back on my journey and work towards completing my original goal of losing 150 lbs. I just may start with a smaller goal of 50lbs, meet it, then move forward. Part of me is wondering if I should just bite the bullet, and start now, forget about the temptation of the holidays, because I would hate to gain more, and come January be back to square one. That would be devastating. All I know is, I’ve been completely out of control, and I have got to do something. I’m not talking diet pills or anything, I just need to figure out how I’m going to kick start this new mission.

Any suggestions??

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on things so far. We haven’t moved yet, but more on that later. I’m in major crisis here with my weight. I broke down and weighed the other day, and was shocked to see that I had gained 10 pounds. Can you believe that??? TEN POUNDS!! So definitely a major setback. I’m PMSing this week big time, so I’m praying that’s part of it. But I guess I needed this wake up call, because I think I’ve FINALLY made up my mind that I’ve got to do this. This morning, as I write this, I haven’t had anything to eat yet, and I’m sitting here telling myself, “Today is the day, you’ve got to do this!” So the motivation is there, I’m just praying it last throughout the day. I will say that I feel different today. I’m not craving any particular food, although I am hungry. Usually, if I’m starving, I’m just dying to get my hands on something really good and fattening, something I love. But today, I’m not doing that. So hopefully, that’s a good sign, and I make the right decisions today. Wish me luck!

I hadn’t until I came across this website today when I was looking for some information on dietary supplements. From what I understand after browsing the Purest Colloids website, colloids provide minerals in which our bodies can use to maintain a good immune system and helps us maintain optimum health. I found this very interesting, because I have never heard of anything like this before. The following is some information about the colloidal silver that they offer.

Their main product is called Mesosilver. This liquid colloidal silver has a particle surface area many times greater than other products of this type, and in turn, provides more usable silver to the body. It is considered a true colloidal sliver, which means that it is made up of silver particles instead of silver ions.

What makes theirs different than other colloids? Their colloids consist of pure elemental metal nanoparticles dispersed in ultra pure deionized water. The smallest sized nanoparticles are called mesoparticles. Compared to colloidal products produced by other methods, Mesocolloids have the highest particle surface area because of the combination of small particle size and high concentration of particles. The particle surface area determines the colloids affectiveness.

If you, like me, are interested in learning more about Purest Colloids’ colloidal silver and mesocolloids, feel free to check out their website. They have a great FAQ section and also provide testimonials about a couple of their products.

I came across this great list of “Super Foods” on the Food Network and thought I would share. Here are 7 of the 10 they listed on their website. I’ve provided a summary of each, but click through if you want to read more about the benefits of each one.

Berries - All fruits are stellar sources of nutrients, but strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries stand out from the pack. They’re high in vitamin and fiber content. They’re an excellent source of antioxidants, compounds that protect our bodies from the stress of day to day living. The antioxidant anthocyanin has triple the stress-fighting power of vitamin C and is known to block cancer-causing damage as well as the effects of many age-related diseases. Read more here.

Legumes - The inexpensive legume family, which includes beans, peas, peanuts and lentils, has priceless benefits. Legumes are rich in folic acid, calcium, iron, potassium, zinc and antioxidants. Their high protein and complex carbohydrates provide steady energy that lasts for hours. They are especially high in soluble fiber, and a daily serving of cooked beans may lower blood cholesterol by as much as 18 percent, decreasing the risk of heart disease. Read more here.

Citrus - We all know citrus fruits are loaded with vitamin C; one orange has a whole day’s requirement. But that’s not all citrus fruits have to offer. Citrus juice contains flavonoids, a phytonutrient that lowers the body’s production of cholesterol, inhibits blood clot formation and boosts the bang of vitamin C. They’re also loaded with soluble fiber which lowers cholesterol, maintains healthy blood sugar levels and helps you to manage your weight. Read more here.

Protein - Modest portions of these meat and dairy products will fill you up without adding to your waistline. Protein is an important part of every diet and is found in many different foods. Lean protein, the best kind, can be found in fish, skinless chicken and turkey, pork tenderloin and certain cuts of beef, like the top round. Low-fat dairy products like milk, yogurt, ricotta and other cheeses supply both protein and calcium. Protein is crucial for tissue repair, building and preserving muscle, and making important enzymes and hormones. Read more here.

Olive Oil - Olive oil is an excellent source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats that may lower the bad cholesterol and raise the good cholesterol. It contains Vitamin E and antioxidants. Extra-virgin olive oil has the highest concentration of Vitamin E and antioxidants. Drizzle extra-virgin olive oil on uncooked dishes, where its assertive flavor will complement your finished dishes. Lighter olive oils like those labeled pure, refined or light contain lower concentrations of nutrients but withstand higher temperatures required for cooking. Read more here.

Nuts and Seeds - Although high in calories, nuts often enable people to maintain or lose weight. A small handful eaten between meals or added to salads, grains or vegetables gives a sense of satiety and results in less total food intake. Nuts have great nutritional benefits, as well. Almonds, pecans and pistachios are rich in protein. Walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids. Sesame, sunflower and pumpkin seeds are particularly good sources of phytosterols, also known as plant sterols, which promote heart health. Read more here.

Salmon - All fish are great sources of protein and low in saturated fat. But cold-water fish, like salmon, mackerel and herring, are premiere sources of omega-3 essential fatty acids. These are fats our bodies can’t produce, so it’s essential we include them in our diet. Omega-3s offer many benefits. They reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. They minimize the symptoms of arthritis and inflammatory diseases. They contribute to healthy skin and hair and they may help with depression. Read more here.

I’ve been overweight most of my life. I started gaining weight when I was 8 years old, after my tonsilectomy. So I was a chubby kid throughout elementary and Jr. High, and then for a brief period during High School I slimmed down enough to try out for cheerleader, and made it, so the activity kept the weight off. But as soon as I graduated from High School, the pounds started to slowly creep back up. So here I am, now heavier than I have ever been in my life. It’s very frustrating. And one thing that makes it even more frustrating is, I know I need to see a doctor about this, but can’t right now, because my husband’s insurance hasn’t kicked in yet with his new job.

I’ve been wondering if I may just need to try one of the available diet pills on the market. One I’ve heard about recently is Acomplia. It is designed to manage hunger and cravings, which leads to reduction of food intake and weight loss. Another well known diet pill is Reductil. Reductil is a medication that works by manipulating neurotransmitters and influences satiety during and after eating.

Well after browsing the internet, I may have found an alternative. The Online Clinic is an online clinic based in the UK, that provides medical consultation and issues prescriptions for free. At The Online Clinic, the consultation procedure is very simple. Before making a diagnosis and giving treatment recommendations, they require that you provide an accurate medical history. From there they decide which diet pill is right for you.

They seem to be a very legitimate website, regulated by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency in the UK. They only supply geniune branded medication prescribed by a UK registered doctors and pharmacy. I’m still not sure if this is the route I want to go, but it’s something to think about, and if any of you are interested in finding out more information about them, go to The Online Clinic.

One thing I would absolutely love to have done that will contribute to my quest of become a “Hot Mommy”, is Lasik eye surgery. Some of you that have seen photos of me, are probably thinking, “I’ve never seen her wearing glasses?” But yes, at the age of 25, I discovered that I was nearsighted, and so for the past 12 years I’ve been wearing prescription eyeglasses. I just hate taking pictures with them on. Unfortunately, Lasik eye surgery is very expensive, so I’ll probably have to put that on hold for a while longer.

In the meantime, I am in desperate need of a new prescription and just a complete set of new eyeglasses. In the past, I would take advantage of our vision insurance, but since my husband just started a new job, we won’t have any health coverage for about 3 months. We could COBRA our previoius insurance, but since it is so expensive, we’ve decided to do without it. I know, pretty risky huh? Unfortunately, we really don’t have a choice.

So today, I was browsing the internet for some good deals on eyeglasses and I came across Zenni Optical. What caught my eye is that they boast $ 8 Zenni Optical Rx Eyeglasses. I was thinking to myself, “This is too good to be true.” Then I browsed around their website and found out why their glasses are so inexpensive.

“Using the latest modern materials, manufacturing and marketing systems we bring our product direct from our factories to you. No middlemen, no retail overhead, and practically no advertising budget,(we leave it to you, our satisfied customers to spread the word), we do not pay for or sell expensive, or even inexpensive, brand names, but only our own manufactured brand ZENNI.

Eyeglasses are definitely a personal fashion and style item, and to that end we strive to provide a fashionable and stylish product. More importantly, we feel prescription eyeglasses are a health item necessity for most wearers, and to that end we take considerable pride in being able to bring to all a very high quality product of great durability, safety and comfort at truly reasonable and affordable prices.”

So I was like, this seems like a company I can trust. After browsing around some more, I realized that they really have a huge selection and many different styles and colors to choose from. Although, the picture above is an example of one of their $8 styles, the following is my favorite, which is around $45. They are hingeless and rimless. I’m definitely thinking of getting some and I’ll let you guys know how they turn out.

I have posted these previously, but I feel like I need a reminder as to why I need to lose weight and what inspires me to do it. Here are 5 things that inspire me to lose weight.

First and foremost, my kids. I’m no “spring chicken” (having my first born when I was 30), and being the weight I am, I find it very difficult and exhausting to keep up with them. I have dreams of being able to run around and play with them, without getting breathless and tired. I want to take them to Disney World in the very near future, and when I go, I want to be able to enjoy myself with them, and not constantly be worried about where I can find a bench to sit down.

I’m tired of not “loving” myself. I’m very self conscious about my weight and how I look to myself and my husband (even though he tells me he loves me the way that I am…I know…I’m blessed). I’m ready to feel good about myself, and not become nauseated every time I look at myself in the mirror.

And I’ve mentioned this before, but heart disease, stroke and diabetes runs rampant in my family, and I absolutely REFUSE succumb to it.

I have really enjoyed Weight Watchers and plan to get back on it. When I’m on it, I’m able to eat a lot of the things that I used to, but just in moderation. Now don’t get me wrong, with WW I definitely eat a lot healthier that I did before, but I love how I’m able to indulge (not overindulge) in some of the things I like without going off my diet.

And last, this blog! I am having such a blast sharing my progress with my new found readers! I refuse to start something and not finish it, and having this blog has definitely helped with that.

Coming from a family that has a history of heart disease, I am very aware of the many problems that being overweight can cause. Although hypertension and diabetes are on my priority list of concerns, I am most concerned with the heart conditions associated with my obesity.

Today I came across the website, TheHeart.org. The first thing that stood out when I visited TheHeart.org was that it was associated with WebMD. Just that association alone led me to believe that this was most definitely a website I could trust, and from there I decided to browse around. At TheHeart.org, their purpose is to basically provide information to cardiologists, referring physicians, and other health care professionals such as nurses and lab technicians on how to care for people with heart and circulation disorders. They also provide information on prevention, which is very important to me.

Although, this website requires membership (free for health care professionals who are members of recognized professional associations), it provides a plethora of information regarding Acute Coronary Syndrome, Hypertension, Heart Failure to name a few. Not only is it composed of articles from HeartWire, but you will also find features such as informative videos and polls.

I would definitely recommend this website for health professionals in the cardiology field. With membership, they will have access to unique continuous medical education content, be able to join in conversations in the blogs and discussion forums, and receive exclusive newsletters related to their field of interest.

What? “Stop drinking bottled water?!!”, you ask. I came across this great article that really got me to thinking about all of the bottled water everyone consumes, and how damaging it could be to our environment. Definitely something to be concerned about. Here’s the article from Nubella:
Americans’ addiction to bottled water has exploded. In 1976, only 350,000 bottles of water were sold. Today, more than 9.4 billion bottles are sold each year, equaling more than $12 billion in sales. However, more people are beginning to question the need for and benefits of bottled water. In fact, certain groups, like Think Outside the Bottle, say our country needs to break its bottled water addiction. Here, ten reasons why you should kick the plastic habit.

1. Water and oil do mix. Although these two liquids may not get along in the kitchen, oil powers the bottled water industry. The Earth Policy Institute estimates that it takes up to 1.5 million barrels of oil to power the plants that make the plastic for the bottles-that’s enough to power 100,000 cars for a year.

2. Natural spring water? The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) estimates that as much as 25 percent of bottled water comes from municipal sources, a.k.a. tap water. Be sure to check the label and cap of the bottle. If it says “from a community water system” or “from a municipal source,” it originates from tap. What’s more, the water doesn’t always come from the branded source. For example, the water bottled for the Deer Park brand (which originated in Deer Park, Maryland) is taken from counties in Florida and Pennsylvania.

3. Bottled water doesn’t go green. The interesting paradox that exists in bottle water consumption is the image it portrays as being healthy and clean, but it is anything but good for the environment. In California alone, approximately a billion plastic bottles are not recycled, according to the California Department of Conservation (CDOC). What’s even more troubling, the Container Recycling Institute (CRI) says that plastic water bottles have a litter rate of about 30 million a day.

4. Bottled water gets a pass. Despite astronomical sales, bottled water plants go relatively unchecked. The FDA, which is responsible for regulating bottled water, admits that “bottled water plants generally are assigned low priority for inspection.” The FDA does not require disinfection of bottled water, nor does it have a confirmed E. Coli and fecal coliform ban, which means, unlike tap water, bottled water is permitted to have small amounts of these two potentially harmful bacteria.

5. There’s something in the water. The water you’re drinking may not be as clean as you think it is. In 2007, the FDA recalled Jermuk bottled water sold in California after finding trace amounts of arsenic, a naturally occurring chemical that can be toxic at very high levels. Furthermore, controversial chemicals called phthalates, which may disrupt the production of testosterone and other hormones, can seep into bottled water over time, according to research conducted by the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

6. Support for the tap. Contrary to popular opinion, bottled water isn’t necessarily healthier than tap water. After conducting an extensive, four-year review of the bottled water industry, the NRDC concluded that bottled water is not any safer or cleaner than tap water. If taste is the issue, opt for home filters. Depending on your needs, you can choose to install one on your refrigerator or on your faucet or you can simply store a pitcher of filtered water in the fridge. Ultimately, filtering your own tap water can save you money and help the environment.
