I’m Starting A Newsletter!

As some of you may have noticed, in my sidebar I have a form where you can sign up for my newsletter.  I’ve decided that I will be sending out a weekly newsletter where I plan to include my weight loss progress and any new diet and weight loss tips that I’ve come across, recipes, etc.  I think it will be fun.  So I hope you guys decide to sign up!

If any of you are wondering how I’m getting this together, I’ve recently signed up with a really cool service called, Constant Contact.  They offer everything you need to get your newsletter up and running and ready to go out for the first publication.  It’s a subscription service too!  You just put the form in a widget in your sidebar, and Constant Contact takes care of the rest for you.  You just log into your account, create your email/newsletter and select your recipients, and that is all there is to it.  It’s very easy, and they offer a FREE 60 day trial with no strings attached.  You don’t even have to provide them with credit card information or anything.  Once you reach your 60 days or you reach 100 subscribers, then you will be required to pay around $15 a month for 0 - 500 contacts.  And of course the more contacts you have, the more it is per month, for example: 501 - 2500 contacts is $30 per month, 2501 - 5000 contacts is $50 per month, etc.  So far, I’m loving it!

So be sure and sign up for my newsletter today and check out Constant Contact!

Thanks for stopping by Making Mommy Hot! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Go Green with the Ideal Bite!

One thing I’ve noticed since I’ve started blogging are a lot of websites and blogs are talking about “Going Green”. What exactly does “Going Green” mean, you ask?

From what I understand, it means being environmentally conscious, and doing whatever it takes to make this earth a better place for us to live.

Well…I may not be willing to build a brand new house that is environmentally friendly, but I am definitely open to making a few changes in my life that might impact the environment, or at least MY environment and how I live. I found this really cool website today that I would like to sharethat offers FREE tips for “green living” and how you can work it into your daily life.

From the Ideal Bite:

Ideal Bite offers bite-sized ideas for light green living – ideas for real people who lead busy lives and want to make small changes that add up to big results. Our Daily Tips cover everything from biodynamic wine to eco-pet products to organic cosmetics. The secret sauce? A spoonful of “incremental environmentalism” combined with a keeping-it-real attitude.

The mission of Ideal Bite is to create a more sustainable world by connecting enlightened companies with responsible consumers who are ready to make small changes that add up. Ideal Bite is a sassier shade of green.

More and more people are becoming environmentally conscious every day, and having something to help you figure out what YOU can do to better the world is so nice , not to mention it’s FREE, which makes it even nicer! And if you live in the following areas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City or Chicago, they have tips specifically for your area. And they will be adding more areas in the near future. Here’s the link, if anyone is interested.

My First Aerobic Workout - The Firm - Cardio Dance Fusion

Yes…finally. I started my aerobic workout program today!! A couple of weeks ago, I purchased The Firm - Cardio Dance Fusion. I finally got up the nerve to try it out this morning…and it was great!! It has a 45 minute workout, and then there are 3 - 25 minute express workouts. I tried the “Club Dance” workout, and although it was tough, I completed it to the best of my ability, and afterwards I felt soooo good. The other two are “Latin Dance” and “Jive Dance”. So those should be fun. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks, I’ll be able to do the full workout. My 4 year old daughter, Allie was sooo cute. She was like, “You are doing so good Mama, you can do it!” LOL

As far as my weight, I’m still maintaining. I really hope to show a good loss next week, due to all of the exercise that I’m planning on doing. Haha….I better!!!

Here’s a link to the DVD if anyone is interested:

MBT “Anti-Shoes” Physiological Footwear - I want some!!!

I was browsing around on Amazon today, and came across some very interesting shoes. They are the MBT Physiological Shoes. MBT stands for Masai Barefoot Technology. Here’s the history behind Masai Barefoot Technology:

MBT, Masai Barefoot Technology, was invented by Swiss engineer Karl Müller. During a visit to Korea he made the startling discovery that walking barefoot over paddy fields alleviated his back pain. Back in Switzerland, Müller began to develop a footwear technology that would make the natural instability of soft ground such as Korean paddy fields or the East African savannah accessible also to those, who have to walk on hard surfaces. In 1996, after years spent on research and development, Masai Barefoot Technology was mature enough to be launched on the market. MBTs are now available in over twenty countries, and approximately one million pairs of this revolutionary footwear technology are sold every year.

Here are some of the benefits of wearing these shoes:

  • Activates Neglected Muscles
  • Improves Posture and Gait
  • Tones and Shapes the Body
  • Can Help with Back, Hip, Leg and Foot Problems
  • Can Help with Joint, Muscle, Ligament and Tendon Injuries
  • Reduces Stress on Knee and Hip Joints

They have also been getting great reviews! The only thing is…they will definitely cost you a pretty penny. Maybe I can save up for some! I thought these were pretty cute.

The Food Industry’s Greed

OMG! I just finished reading a new book. It’s called “The Food Industry’s Greed: How Misleading Labeling of Omega-3 Foods Undermines Health – Inflammation and Omega-6”. This book was a total “eye-opener”.

There are tons of excellent Omega-3 books that explain fats, essential fats, an Omega-3 diet book, but Lois Smithers’ new book takes on a different aspect – a penetrating look at Omega-3 products from pork to mayonnaise labeled “good sources of Omega-3” with a special emphasis on Omega-6s in those foods.

This Omega-3 expose is a thoroughly researched look into inflammation, the connection to Omega-6s in processed foods, and the food industry’s misleading labeling of Omega-3 products. By using 44 links to difficult to access on-line research, readers can follow links to new science from respected medical communities that all share a message – inflammation from these foods has been affecting the health of nation for over 50 years.

In the book, Lois Smithers relies on the scientific work of many medical communities including Dr. Joseph Hibbeln, National Institutes of Health, the world’s foremost leading Omega-3 researcher. The clear message from science is the lack of Omega-3 in western diets combined with an abundance of Omega-6s has caused an epidemic of inflammation.

Of most importance is the harm in neural development of unborn children and young children with rising statistics in ADD and astonishing numbers of juvenile diabetes. This alone, piqued my interest, being that I have a son that was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder just over a year ago. And using 44 links to research and clinical studies, she further shows how inflammation is a link to Alzheimer’s, heart disease and numerous diet-related diseases.

The Omega-3 expose also walks readers from the beginning in 2004, when the FDA issued a Health Qualifying Claim for EPA and DHA from fish to the evolution of 317 products in 2007 with unprecedented numbers expected this year and the impact upon health.

Lois also states that consumers are confused with so much information with too many believing these products contain health benefits they’ve come to associate with “Omega-3.” By using research that is not overly scientific, the she makes it abundantly clear how these foods have been falsely marketed to consumers.

There are many reviews of Omega-3 food labels in the book to help readers read between the lines of products, six clinical studies that show the power of Omega-3 (from fish) to combat inflammation and how we have reached a critical health crisis in America from inflammation.

This book is a definite must read. It is packed with information in an easy to read, simple style anyone can understand. It has been receiving praises far and wide across health communities. And be sure to check out the table of contents where she provides links to all sources and a link to sign a petition to the FDA.

As a special to me, Lois is giving the first 20 purchasers a 30 minute free consultation to answer any questions you might have about the Omegas, inflammation and research in the book.

To get a free consultation, just send your receipt to support@omega3labels.com.
